Although a stool is by tradition a seat without a back or armrests, the traditional idea of a stool has become a little bit different - generally a round style seat with four posts coming down from the seat. As such, we also have stools with backs. and because of their resemblance to stools, although the back rest technically makes them a chair, we still go by the term stool.
